Have you had problems paying your mortgage recently? I hope not, but if you have you are not alone. "Home foreclosures hit record" said CNN Money a couple of weeks ago. Now you probably don't invest in hedge funds, but if you did your investments might be feeling the squeeze too. A week after that CNN Money reported that "Deadly ripples threaten subprime funds". Investment bank Bear Stearns has had big problems with a couple of its funds that "are close to being shut down after suffering deep losses in bonds backed by subprime mortgages".

Earlier this week the British pound hit a 26 year high against the US dollar. On the BBC TV news last night it was said (only slightly tongue in cheek) that someone living in the centre of London could sell their garage and buy a flat in the centre of New York with the proceeds. Now the pound isn't such a huge force in the foreign exchange markets these days, but the euro is also very close to its all time high against the dollar. Now is certainly a good time for someone from Europe to take a trip to the States, but a bad time for someone from the U.S. to take a holiday in Europe.
